Morocco Reopening Borders To Travelers: Everything You Need To Know

Morocco will reopen its borders for international travelers this week to 67 countries including the United States. 

In a recent tweet, Royal Air Maroc said “Nationals of visa-exempt countries with an invitation from a Moroccan company or a confirmed hotel reservation can now have access to our flights to Morocco. All foreign visitors must comply with the health measures issued by the Moroccan authorities, in particular the obligation to carry out the required tests for COVID-19.”

The news released by the airline on Twitter has not yet been confirmed by the Foreign Ministry so all travelers must check with the Moroccan embassy in their home country before booking travel.

Countries Allowed to Visit Morocco For Tourism

Business travelers and visitors from the following 67 visa-exempt countries who have confirmed hotel reservations may travel to Morocco: 

  • European Union Members
  • United Kingdom
  • United States
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • New Zealand

The foreign ministry has not confirmed the additional entry requirements at this time but as it stands now, passengers arriving in Morocco must abide by the following protocols.

Testing Requirements

Passengers arriving in Morocco must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test no older than 48 hours. 

Mask Requirements

Wearing of face masks in all public spaces is required.

Lockdowns 

Morocco imposed one of the world's strictest lockdowns back in March trapping international tourists inside the country and stranded tens of thousands of Moroccans overseas.

As the country is still battling COVID-19 the popular tourist cities of Marrakesh, Fez, Casablanca and Tangier remain closed with nobody permitted in or out of the cities.

Morocco Is Seeing a Surge of COVID-19 

Morocco is setting record breaking daily numbers right now of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.

Just yesterday, Morocco had its second highest 24 hour period of confirmed cases coming in at 2157 for a total of 77,878 cases since the pandemic began.

Morocco has been one of the most cautious countries to begin reopening for tourism in northern Africa.

Tunisia and Egypt both began welcoming tourists earlier this summer.
