Five Places that Instagram Added to My Bucket List

Instagram is a great source to get some travel inspiration.  As I mentioned in a previous post, it’s a great way to find things to do, both at home and abroad. There are so many adventurers out there, taking pictures of amazing places all around the world.  Unsurprisingly, I have started to create a list of these locations.  So, without further ado, here are five places that Instagram added to my bucket list.

Checking In: Nxabega Okavango Camp

Ever pictured yourself taking in an African sunset from the comfort of your outdoor deck, gently swinging in the early evening breeze with a good book in hand? I did just that on my recent visit to Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp in Botswana. After spending a few days at Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge nearby, I took a short ten-minute flight further south to Nxabega Tented Camp, a tiny property of just 11 luxuriously appointed tents in the bush of Botswana. With the term glamping firmly cemented in any millennial mind, I’m sure you can easily picture just how perfectly appointed these tents were. But for the sake of clarity, here is a look inside my recent experience at Nxabega Tented Camp in Botswana ! Arriving in Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp I arrived off a flight around midday to my waiting safari vehicle, ready to hit the ground running and spot some wildlife en route to camp! Nxabega Tented Camp feels a world away from reality as you step off the vehicle and on to the path...

Camels, Dunes, and Drums: An Overnight Trip into the Sahara Desert

I was about a quarter of the way up the dune, my lungs burning and my boots slowly filling up with sand when I remembered something I always manage to forget: climbing sand dunes really sucks. Standing at the bottom of a sand dune, it never really looks *that* high. You tell yourself you can easily climb it; that all those kickboxing classes surely have prepared you for this moment. You start climbing, feeling good. But then you literally get “that sinking feeling” as you sink at least one step backward for every two you take forward; the top never seems to get any closer.  But when you find yourself in the Sahara Desert just before sunset, you can't NOT climb the dune. Climbing a golden sand dune for sunset was just one of the many highlights of my trip into the Sahara Desert in Morocco. Doing a trip like this has been on my bucket list for years, and I'm happy to report that it 100% lived up to all my expectations! Riding camels into the S...

Sleeping with the elephants

One of the most amazing places we have visited so far on our 43-day safari has to be the Ngorongoro Crater. We camped at the crater rim the night before the next day’s game drive, but we weren’t the only one at the campsite. A massive bull elephant, that dwarfed our Land Rovers, also thought our campsite was a good place to hang out. Apparently, he is there often drinking out of the camp’s water supply according to our guides. The thing with elephants are, that even though they are twice the size of our safari vehicles, they make absolutely no noise when they walk. This proved very dangerous to one of our fellow campers as she walked out of the bathroom and almost directly in the tusks of the massive elephant. The elephant was so quiet she didn’t even realize how close she was until another camper told her afterwards. She may have surprised the elephant as much as it surprised her and they each went their own way. Our safari has been full of unique experi...
