Petra: A Have to-See Ahead of You Die

Unknown to the Western globe until 1812 (and to preferred culture until finally 1989 thanks to Indiana Jones), Petra was “discovered” by Sheikh Ibrahim Ibn Abdallah, or Johann Ludwig Burckhardt, as his mates liked to contact him back in his ‘hood in Switzerland.

Today, this Nabataean caravan-city is 1 of the 7 new wonders of the globe, and is definitely a single of individuals boxes you want to examine off of spots to see prior to you die.

Not 1 for obtaining a tiny sweaty and dirty on your journeys? Petra’s possibly not for you, as  is described in this posting in the Telegraph. “The sheer scale of the site can make the most lasting affect. It spreads above seven square miles, and its sand and limestone geology upstages even the blurred, wind-eroded grandeur of the rock hewn, classical tomb and temple façades.”

I re-watched “The English Patient” this weekend (and I’m not ashamed to admit it), and every single time I do, it makes me want to stop by the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East far more and much more, in spite of the fact that the primary characters end up dying as the result of a plane crash, horrific inner injuries, and fatally severe skin burns. What can I say, I’m a romantic?

Road Tripping Dartmoor National Park
